Livestock Bedding
Kruger Solutions is now providing woodchips specifically for cattle bedding. Research has found that ‘providing feedlot cattle with woodchip bedding during wet and muddy conditions has been shown to result in a range of production and animal welfare benefits (UNE’s Tullimba Research Feedlot, 2019) ‘. These include improved feed efficiency, reduced chronic stress, increase in animal growth and an overall boost to animal welfare.
Woodchip bedding can also be an economic alternative to other materials like straw and mulch, as it requires less frequent additions. Depending on how long the cattle are to be fed in the yard, it is suggested that the depth of the bedding should be between 15cm and 30cm. This ensures the bedding doesn’t sink as low into the mud and will stay cleaner for longer.
